Dragon Ball FighterZ tells a whole new story, instead of going back to the events known from manga and anime. Every warrior on the earth has been knocked out, all at once. You, the player, have somehow been linked to Goku. In addition, all powerful enemies defeated by our heroes in the past have been resurrected, and mysterious clones that look exactly like the warriors we know are wreaking havoc on the whole planet. Without your help, Goku and the others are unable to fight, because their powers have been sealed by the mysterious waves. Thanks to link with you, they can use some of their power and face a new threat.
Story Arcs
The story is broken up into three unique chapters, each of them generally tells the same story from a different perspective. In each part, the story takes place in a different way, because we direct other characters and we influence events in a different way. Of course, each time there is a slightly different ending. In these three chapters we learn new things about what happened to our heroes, what clones are doing here, and of course who Android 21 really is. You can find details about each Arc in their separate guides. You'll learn the story of each Arc and how to get 100% completion. Note that in the three guides below you'll find a huge dose of spoilers.
We start with the most typical story seen from the perspective of our "good" characters. In Super Warrior Arc we play mainly as Goku, Krillin, Piccolo, Vegeta, Gohan, but also as Yamcha, Tien, or Gotenks. We'll learn about the waves that will make our warriors unable to fight. Old enemies and a completely new threat will appear on our way. To deal with it, we need to find and revive all our friends.
The second chapter of Story Mode is not so typical and it may surprise you many times. We're connected to Frieza. He's not happy about this and will often let us know what he thinks about us. However, he must work with us to regain his power. We'll also gather many allies, because whoever is responsible for all this events must be punished. Nappa, Ginyu with his team, Cell, and even Goku with his friends will join us to confront a new, powerful enemy.
Android 21 Arc is the most difficult chapter of the whole Story Mode. We take control over Android 18 and cross the world fighting clones. We also play as Android 16 and Android 21. At some point events get out of control and we need help from Goku and his friends to deal with it.
Maps
Between the main fights and cutscenes we move on the maps like the one above. On each map you can find "Boss Fight" point, which moves the story forward, then ends your journey on the current map and takes you to the next one. At various points in the map you'll find clones that you can fight to raise levels of your team members or farm Zeni and Player Skills upgrades. There are several things that good to know while moving around the maps.
In the top left corner is information how many moves you have left. Theoretically, you can easily move around the entire map, fight against each opponent, go to Boss Fight, and still have some free moves. However, the more moves you make, the more enemies on the map grow in strength. If you want more experience for your characters, you'll want to use as many moves as possible. However, if the number of turns drops to 0 and you're not in Boss Fight point, you'll see the Game Over screen.
The number and location of enemies on the map can change when you move on it. The more you move around the map, the greater chance that new enemies will appear in empty places. Sometimes a Clone Kid Buu can jump in place of any opponent. It's a very difficult Mini-Boss who usually has a much higher level than your warriors. However, if you defeat him, you'll gain a huge amount of experience and significantly raise the level of your characters.
Remember that you don't have to fight all enemies on the map. To move the story forward, you can just reach Boss Fight as quickly as possible. However, the less you fight, the less experience and levels your characters gain. The levels of enemies will grow on each map, regardless of the level of your warriors.
Player Skills
As you progress through the story, you'll unlock new skills that will help you in the next battles. You can have 3 active skills at the same time. During the fight, all active skill effects work on all members of your team. Each skill except "Opponent Level Up" and "Opponent Level Down", has 6 levels. The higher skill level, the better effect is for your team members.
Player Skills can be improved by defeating enemies, who then drop the appropriate upgrades. You can unlock the first three levels when completing Story mode for the first time. When you do this, Hard Mode will be unlocked, in which upgrades from 4 to 6 are obtainable. All available skills are listed below.
- Attack Power Up - increases normal attack power.
- Sp. Attack Power Up - increases special/super attack power.

How to get 100% complete?
To get 100% complete story mode, in addition to completing all the three chapters, you must meet few other requirements. During each chapter you'll experience Special Events. To unlock them, you have to compose your team in the right way. Sometimes it's also required to fight against a specific opponent. Lists of all combinations can be found in specific Arc guide. You have to also complete all Sub Arcs, which consist in saving all companions such as Yamcha, Tien, Gotenks, etc.
The only task you probably not be able to do right after completing the story is to unlock a few Special Events from the Super Warrior Arc. They require unlocking two additional characters: SSGSS Goku and SSGSS Vegeta. To get them, raise Goku (Super Saiyan) and Vegeta (Super Saiyan) levels to 40. The easiest and fastest way to do this is complete the entire story, and then grind one of the last maps of the third Arc. After completing Story Mode you'll unlock the third level of Player Skill "Victory Exp Up" and gain access to high level opponents (Hard Mode), for which you'll receive more experience. Just use three levels of "Victory Exp Up" and fight with Clones until you reach level 40.
Achievements & Trophies
In Story mode, you can get a total of 7 Achievements/Trophies. Some of them will be unlocked automatically by triggering a Special Event or completing each of the three arcs. However, you'll have to spend a bit more time on some of them.
